Rules of access

Access to the collections of the Polish State Archives is regulated by the law enacted on the 14th July 1983. The Archives are open for the general public and for scholars as well. In every Polish State Archive access to the records is free of charge.

Please note, that no access is given to the originals of registers (books), that are in poor physical condition. That applies especially for the Judaic registers. The Archives need to safeguard the registers for the future generations. These registers are microfilmed.

Please note, that according to the law concerning the civil records, no access is given to the register priory to the end of 100 years period from the closure of the book; at the present moment it means the date of 1907.

The research in these registers could be done only by an archivist, as a paid inquire for a private person.

Prices

  Archival studies usually require considerable time and patience. The execution of genealogical research may be done by postal inquire or assigned to an archivist (an application). The fee for the service is fixed at the Directive no 5 from 12th July 1996 by the Director of State Archives. It is $ 15 per hour.

Please notice that according to our regulations the only form of payment is to transfer money to our bank accounts (a bank transfer); no cheques are accepted.
